A Mary Valley Rattler experience provides a unique and memorable outing for your group.

Step back in time and board one of our lovingly restored carriages for your special group tour, or hop aboard for a cocktail style event, a wine and cheese party or any special occasion. The options are endless!

For larger groups, the Rusty Rails Café at the historic Gympie Station can cater for up to 120 people. Here, extra care has been taken to ensure the historical integrity has been maintained whilst providing a light and contemporary restaurant, offering a diverse and exciting menu.

What We Offer

We offer full catering on our carriages conveniently located at the historic Gympie Station.

We can tailor a menu to suit your group requirements. Join us for morning or afternoon tea or lunch in the café or ask us about our special function options for evening events.

We can also accommodate entertainment on board the Mary Valley Rattler or at the station.

Special Interest

We know that trains aren’t only loved by little kids…the big kids love them too! We welcome groups of all ages including aged care groups, probus clubs and specialty groups. We can cater for small to large groups on our scheduled departure days.

Private Charters & Special Occasions

We can tailor a private charter aboard any of our fleet. We specialise in themed events and can help you plan the perfect event in the Mary Valley for your special occasion.

Our dedicated team are here to assist your group in making special memories with the Mary Valley Rattler.

There is ample parking available for coaches and catering options to suit your group requirements. We recommend pre-booking for groups of over 10 people to ensure you don’t miss out!

“I would like to thank all the staff on the Rattler for making our Carers Week event such a success. The Rattler brought back so many memories for our carers, from a carer that went on a rugby trip 50 years ago on a Rattler train to a carer that use to take the Rattler to school. We had a 170 (carers and staff) the day was perfect and thanks to the community of Dagun for the cheese and wine. ‘A Great Experience!’

“A great family day on the Mary Valley Rattler for 10 of us. The volunteer staff were so accommodating and friendly, being 10 of us they had a Guards Van for us so we could all be together which made the trip for us a lot of fun. The kids loved being able to look at the Steam Engine and climb on board. Beautiful country to travel through too. We took our own picnic which they had no objection to, which made having lunch for us all at Gympie so much easier. Our travel direction was Amamoor/Gympie/Amamoor. We had been waiting for a few years to do this trip and it didn’t disappoint.”

Great family day out!

“Our party of seven included two grandparents, two parents, an aunty and two grandkids aged 5 and 7. It was a first for all of us to ride a steam train. We did the Amamoor / Gympie / Amamoor trip which was a good call with plenty of parking at Amamoor and a chance to see the steam engine rotated on the turntable.
Tour was just the right length of time with plenty of stops (Dagun and Gympie) for a chance to sample local hospitality. Special mention to the staff at Platform 1 Cafe who provided tasty meals for all at reasonable prices and with great service. Mary Valley Rattler is a must do for all families.”
