Gympie Steam Festival Title

Gympie’s premier heritage organisations the Mary Valley Rattler, the Gympie Gold Museum and the Gympie Woodworks Museum are partnering for the inaugural Steam Conference 2021.

This event builds on the existing Steam Festival which is hosted annually in October celebrating the discovery of gold in Gympie.

Gympie’s Steam Festival & Conference

October 15 – 17, 2021

Gympie’s premier heritage organisations the Mary Valley Rattler, the Gympie Gold Museum and the Gympie Woodworks Museum are partnering for an inaugural Steam Conference in 2021.
This event builds on the existing Steam Festival which is hosted annually in October celebrating the discovery of gold in Gympie.

The conference aims to:

  • share and celebrate the cultural heritage of the region
  • foster the collaboration between local heritage organisations to promote Gympie as a heritage centre and develop cultural tourism in the region
  • increase the economic viability of heritage steam organisations to preserve them for future generations.
  • build heritage networks and support nationally

Gympie is home to a unique range of fully operational, large-scale steam operated machinery such as the 1899 Walkers Cornish Boiler; a steam operated sawmill, and two C17 steam locomotives circa 1950’s. 

The current Steam Festival offers live demonstrations to the public over two days at the Gympie Gold Museum.

The 2021 three-day program comprises of;

DAY 1

WOODWORKS MUSEUM

  • Light up the boiler at the Woodworks Museum with a live steam demonstration including breakfast
  • Guided Tour of the Woodworks Museum
  • Programmed speaker sessions at Chatsworth Hall including Ralph Richardson, Allan Blackman and Greg Hallam
DAY 2

GOLD MUSEUM SHUTTLES

  • Jump on RM76 at the Mary Valley Rattler for the shuttle service to Monkland where the Leyland bus will take you to the Gympie Gold Museum for a guided tour and live steam demonstrations.
  • The Gympie Gold Museum is open to the public from 9am- 4pm
DAY 3

ULTIMATE STEAM TRAIN & GOLD MUSEUM SHUTTLES

  • Light up the loco including workshop tour and breakfast, a ride on C17 967 out to Amamoor and back including lunch for the ‘Ultimate Steam Train Experience
  • The Gympie Gold Museum is open to the public from 9am – 4pm
