Double Steam Day at the Mary Valley Rattler

Mary Valley Rattler are looking forward to celebrating a moment in history and invite you along for the ride.
Since rail operations commenced in October 2018 on the historic rail line thousands of people have enjoyed a heritage rail experience. The Mary Valley Rattler operate a fleet of rolling-stock including steam locomotives, diesel locomotives and rail-motors.

Today the Mary Valley Rattler invited people to the historic Gympie Station to introduce the fleet at the inaugural ‘Meet the Fleet’ day and announced a special day to officially welcome the C17 steam locomotive No. 967 back into fleet and passenger operations on the Mary Valley Rattler line.
A major refurbishment has been undertaken on 967 with locomotive specialist, John Flynn overseeing the project.
Significant works have been undertaken to bring this classic steam engine back to the rails. Many local Queensland businesses have had a hand in the restoration project with the build happening in Gympie at CPM Engineering.

The volunteer team made sure space was available at the workshop to accommodate the two steam locomotives that now reside in the Gympie stable. 967’s journey continues with a period of commissioning, testing and fine-tuning before it will be officially introduced into the passenger train consist and start carrying passengers on the historic line once again.
Saturday 31st August will see two steam trains depart the historic Gympie Station and travel through the stunning Mary Valley for the return journey to Amamoor.

To suitably celebrate we invite one and all to the historic Gympie Station from 8am with face painting, live music and activities for all the family to enjoy. Experience a unique moment in time where two steam trains will be proudly on display at the Station.
The Classic Rattler Run departs on schedule departing Gympie at 9:00am aboard the C17 No. 974 steam train returning at noon.
A special second departure steams out of the historic Gympie Station powered by 967 departing at 9:30am. This premium experience includes catering, on board entertainment and a commemorative certificate.
